Description: USS Comstock LSD-45 Patch - Plastic Backing A 4" with Plastic Backing/Sew On Patch of the USS Comstock LSD-45. 4" inches With Plastic Backing/Sew On US Veteran-Owned Business USS Comstock (LSD-45) is a Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship of the United States Navy. She is the second Navy ship to be named for the Comstock Lode in Nevada, following the decommissioning of the first Comstock (LSD-19) in 1976. The Comstock Lode was a rich deposit of precious metals discovered in 1859. Comstock was built at the Avondale Shipyards in New Orleans, Louisiana and was launched in January 1988 and commissioned in February 1990. At first, the ship had an all-male crew, but it soon became the first United States Navy combatant ship to have a fully integrated crew of male and female sailors. As of 2002, Comstock is based at Naval Station San Diego, California and is assigned to Expeditionary Strike Group 3 and later in 2014 part of Makin Island amphibious ready group. In December 2020, the U.S. Navy's report to Congress on the Annual Long-Range Plan for Construction of Naval Vessels stated that the ship was planned to be placed Out of Commission in Reserve in 2026.
