Tailing the group on board their ship home through the Panama Canal, Torchy and Steve compete with each other to solve the mystery before their suspect can leave the ship with his loot. TORCHY GETS HER MAN 1938 6TH IN THE SERIES; Detective Steve McBride (Barton MacLane) receives information from Secret Service agent Gilbert (Willard Robertson) about a counterfeiter who's likely to strike at a nearby racetrack. The police authorize Gilbert to cover the track, unaware that he is actually the counterfeiter, using their approval as cover for his scheme. Overhearing Gilbert at the police station, reporter Torchy Blane (Glenda Farrell) ignores Steve's warning to avoid the track and follows Gilbert, intent on getting a scoop.
