He cites the Great American Flag as a symbol of the things he loves about the Tri-State area. "People here have such a love for our nation," Kincaid said, "And I was really touched when I heard about the employees at Anchor Industries stitching their names into the seams of the flag. Kincaid, who moved to Evansville in 1987, didnt hear about the Great American Flag until 1991 when one of the Anchor employees called him and suggested that the flag be displayed to welcome American troops back from the first Gulf War. That display happened on Flag Day 1991 at the base of the Washington Monument with a busload of Evansville area residents assisting with the display. The flag eventually became surplus and ended up being purchased on a televised auction on July 4, 2001. Kincaid met with the current owner of the flag, Ted Dorman, a couple of years ago and thats when the idea for the book was born.
