Description: The Beatles, Please Please Me / Ask Me Why, vinyl 45 (UK, Parlophone, 1963), M- Parlophone 45-R 4983. Original first Hayes pressing, without "MADE IN GT BRITAIN" on red label [Spizer no. PAR 4983.01A], released January 1963. Extremely rare in this condition: this is a stone mint copy of the record that made the Beatles a major attraction (but still not a headliner) in their home country, released exctly one month before they recorded their first LP. Specimen from very early in the run; just the 14th stamper for A-side, 12th stamper for B-side (the dead-wax tax code indicates only that it was pressed between January and June 1963, but ZT is stamped in the center, which would suggest that the mother was cut before mid-January '63). I have never played it, but must it must have sterling sound. If this sleeve is from its original owner, the record was probably purchased in Wickford, which lies 17 miles from where the Bealtes played under Tommy Roe on 20 March '63, and 4 miles from where they played under Roy Orbison on 31 May '63. Runout markings: 7XCE 17217-1N GM MPT2 / 7XCE 17218-1N GR MPT1 Disc: M-: finest archival copy; full mirrorlike lustre, beautiful; dink intact; no wol, no sol; vinyl and labels appear flawless but for one very slight 1/3" hairline on B-side and only two light spindle burns on each label. I have owned for decades and have never played it. Beach towel stock sleeve, VG+: no soc but stamped by original shop owner in Wickford, England; "4643" written in one top corner, indicating that the sleeve was previously paired with Adam Faith's "Someone Else's Baby," a top-5 hit in the U.K. in 1960. No seam splits, creases, or tears other than rough handling of top 1/8"; light disc impression. POLICIES:Photos are always of actual item offered. M- is my highest grade, and is applied to New Old Stock, as I had direct access to the contents of manufacturers' cartons from the mid-1970s onward.
