Description: HUGH INGRAM was born in Georgia in 1802 and died in Texas in 1880. He was a major landowner and slaveholder in Navarro County. According to the 1860 census, he owned close to 11,000 acres and 53 slaves, ranging in age from nine months to 45 years, including 17 males and 11 females under the age of 16. The Ingrams – Anderson, Hugh, Richmond and Washington – came from Georgia in 1857 and settled near the Wildcat Crossing of the Trinity River. Their community was known as Rural Shade. 2 pp, 8 1/4 x 13 1/4, 1877 Texas Land Sale document. Francis Marion Lester and his wife Mary Elizabeth Lester sell a parcel of land in Navarro County to major land and slaveholder Hugh Ingram. Both Lesters sign the document. Affixed is a printed joint acknowledgement document signed by the clerk of Palo Pinto County indicating that Francis’s wife, M.E. Lester, signed the sale document willingly. The document is easy to read with the Navarro County seal. Expected toning. Light staining to the verso, not impacting readability.
