Description: RARE Early Handmade 6 TUBE COLONIAL Tin Candle Mold, Americana, Farmhouse, Primitive Antique tin candle mold. Nice size, having 6 "tubes" to make 6 candles at a time. Nicely arranged in a rectangular pattern. These were quite an improvement and time saver over individually hand-dipping candles on early farms, but were rather expensive in 1700's money and not too common. It stands 11" tall x 3 3/4" x 4" wide. This has a rectangular top, made to hold the tubes in place and facilitate "damming" the wax during pouring. Also provides a dam to hold the wax and keep it from spilling over. At the bottom the tubes are held in place by a similar rectangular bottom. Each tube is about 7/8" diameter. This was made with a handle, which IS STILL PRESENT!!! Quite often they are missing today on many molds. A VERY TALL, STURDY 6 TUBE MOLD.IT WAS HANDMADE OUT OF HEAVY TIN PLATE MATERIAL BY AN EARLY TINSMITH. Looks OK for its age and is in complete well-used antique condition overall. Aged tin patina with a soot-y coating, like remnants of original black paint, worn during the years, or perhaps it survived a house fire.
