Description: Rare! Antique German Mercury Glass Clip-on Feather Tree Christmas Ornament Hand blown, Hand painted - circa 1940's Hand blown, hand painted Gnome on tree stump with mushroom standing in a mercury glass silver and deep red bowl. Gnome is wearing a deep red hat, green shirt and deep red pants. His facial featurs are painted and his beard is accented with white mica. Gnome is standing on a stump which is made of a green pipe cleaner and at his feet is a mushroom which has an off white stem with a mushroom cap that is red with white dots. The mushroom is made of spun cotton. Spun cotton ornaments, originated in the Saxony region of Germany back in the second half of the 19th century, during the late Victorian era. These old fashioned beauties were made with cotton batting(and sometime wool batting too), a fluffy, raw looking material made of non woven fibers. The bowl in which the Gnome is standing is silver mercury glass which is painted around the outside in deep red. This beautiful ornament is approximately 4.5 inches tall x 2 inches wide. The clip is in very good working condition. This ornament is unmarked. The mercury glass as well as the painted areas are bright and shiny. This ornament is in exceptional condition with minor signs of age, use and storage.
