Description: PLEASE NOTE: I am selling a number of watches and parts from several collections I acquired. They are in various conditions and all are being sold 'AS IS', including this Rare 1916 WWI General W. C. Swiss UK Sterling Wire Lug 15J Manual 2-Tone Dial, so please read my descriptions carefully before bidding or buying. I will attempt to be as accurate as possible and I also package very well, but watches are somewhat delicate by nature, so please ask questions if you're not sure what you are buying. Also, please read my feedback and note that my BIN prices are usually under the selling point at end of auctions... this watch will look better in your hand than it does in the pics. A clean, rare example of a true survivor from WWI. UK Sterling silver hallmarks confirm it as a Swiss import into London in 1916. Though the dial and movement are unsigned, the inner case back is. The case is in very nice shape for the age, with normal minor surface scratches, but no evidence of abuse . Front and back closures are tight and wire lugs are solid The movement is visually clean in appearance and looks to be an early General Watch Co....also rare, like the dial. It's unsigned, but appears to be a 15 jewel model. The watch winds, sets [stem wind/ set], runs well and is keeping decent time, though does require a firm pull on the crown when setting. Case diameter is approx. 33.6mm and the crown also appears original. The single sunk porcelain dial has chunky Arabic indices, which may have had radium on them at one time. These dials are much rarer than the white ones and this one does have a couple of minor hairline cracks, but no chips. The fancy radium hands are crisp and also appear original, though may have been a replacement, and there is a sub second hand at 6 o'clock. The bowed, bevelled edge glass crystal also appears original and does have a couple of small perimeter chips, but is generally very nice. The nylon band, though the right idea, is all that I had that sort of fit, but is actually somewhat short, so may have to be upgraded unless you have small wrists. This is a true WWI wire lug trench watch worthy of a collection, or as a cool, occasional wearer....you won't be disappointed!
