This is a compendium of alphabetical entries of all the geographic and cultural points of the American continent at the time. Lists many cities, counties, towns, lakes, rivers, Indian tribes, and so forth. Absolutely incredible look into early American history. Includes the map showing the Georgia Western Territory, which was apparently not included in every printing. The heading says there are seven maps, but this volume only has six, unless I am just not finding it. I don't see any evidence of a map being torn out, and I don't see any information on line about the 7th map, so I am not sure if it is missing or not. Anyhow I have included photos of all the maps in this volume. Note that the map of North America opposite the title page is torn and missing half. Otherwise all the maps are just beautiful. The leather cover has some wear, as you can see, but the binding is still intact and fairly strong. There are a few spots where you can see the threads and it is a touch loose, but not coming apart at all. There are exactly three pages which have little holes, but really it is only three that I see and the holes are not bad. See photo. Other than some wear on the cover, the torn map, and the little holes, this copy is in remarkably nice condition. All the pages are clean with aging but no damage. Truly a beautiful copy. There is a beautifully hand-written note on the first blank page about the sale of this book in 1815 for $2.25. A name and 1799 date are written at the last page. This is a very rare collection of information about early America, with amazing maps and fascinating descriptions. And in remarkably lovely condition.
