Description: Probably pre 1850. Pennslvania Dutch (corruption of Deutsch - they were German). I have only ever found these having originated in Eastern PA - Lancaster county etc. These were hung on the farmer's or laborer's belt and contained a natural stone whetstone, often with some fresh grass to keep it moist. Which was used to sharpen the scythe or sickle. This one is in excellent condition. About 9 1/2" tall. As pictured.
