Description: "Fringed" and "hanky-drop" don't often describe a vintage floral brooch, but in the case of this uniquely-styled Hattie Carnegie piece, they apply. As does "modernist" and, of course, "peek-a-boo". These are the qualities that make our mid-20th century creation by Carnegie a stand-out. This might even be a tad avant garde, since the designer is known for traditional and figural aesthetics.Our flower brooch is large and asymmetrical in design. It has three large petals which are different sizes, all with a hanky drop silhouette, wavy, squarish and with points.Each petal is liberally fringed at the edges, and has slats in the center portion. A ribbon of glittery rhinestones follows the shape of the petal. Of the three, the petal at the bottom, closest to the sleeky shiny stem, is the largest, almost the size of the two petals on top.At the center of the flower is a smaller floret shaped pistil portion, with faux cream pearls.The brooch measures 3 1/8" tall and is 2 1/2" wide. It has textured gilt base, with a locking c-clasp. Marked Hattie Carnegie within an oval cartouche at the base.Our brooch is in A+ excellent condition, wit no visible wear. It looks like it was never used. The pearls have their nacre intact, the rhinestones are glittery, and the goldtone is super rich in color.
