Description: From the state of an active, life-long fountain pen collector. This pen measures approx. 5" long. The nib is marked "SPECIAL IRIDIUM PEN" as pictured. The band on the cap marked R14K. Unique carnelian red to brown lacquer decorated with bell design. Inhalation style ink system untested but no chips or cracks noted and seems to work smoothly although I removed nib cap and see a tube inside (see last photo) and don’t know 100% if it connects and works properly as I haven’t tested it. Gold (plated or R14K) clip. Fair condition but some “haze” on lacquer that a proper cleaning would probably fix but I believe the proper way to clean lacquer is with linseed oil or distilled spirits which I don’t have on have. Generally appearing to function as it should and smoothly - no bend on nib (see photos). No monograms. Small hole drilled into cap but as designed/manufactured (I assume to avoid vacuum as these are common on pens of this vintage). Untested and does not currently write as I don’t have ink to “inhale” and test. Take a close look at all the photos provided and use these as part of the description. Probably not Urushi or Maki-e - I didn’t see any maker marks - but similar in lacquer style, design and vintage. I do have other, similar Japanese lacquer pens so please feel free to inquire. Also - please note shipping costs (built into purchase price or separate) is not all that it seems - eBay charges sellers (or maybe just me) usually 13.25% on shipping and sales tax - so in reality the 13.25% fee is more along the lines of 15/16% - i.e. - you buy an item for $100 with shipping included (say it costs seller $8) with 8% sales tax the total is $108 of which the seller pays $14.31 (14.31%) or if you consider the net on the item, $92 - 15.55% - I am happy to haggle when I can but at these fees and the cost of shipping - I do have limitations.
