Description: Here's a 3.5" x 5.5" standard-sized postcard the likes of which you may not see for a great while. First: some history. Pincushion, plus other mechanical and 3-D postcards, began their popularity during the height of the postcard craze from 1905 up to WWI. An undivided-back postcard is usually considered before 1907. The 1908 presidential campaign featured many cartoon postcards of Theodore Roosevelt, William Jennings Bryan and William Howard Taft, all with padded features one could use as a pincushion such as a base drum or tambourine. Our eBay item 273789564134 is such an example for Taft's big belly. But there are pincushion cards of women on bikes with oversized posteriors, (remember, this was before political correctness), bathing beauties' backsides, a valentine's heart, a woman's shoe or, more risque, simply a woman's leg, exposed below her dress, where her stocking is a pincushion, or her breasts themselves! Notice these all deal with females. We have looked and done some research and could not find another example of a pincushion baseball player postcard, let alone specific to a catcher. Check it out - the style of the player's uniform and glove - pre WWI. We'd say early: 1905-1910. But you guys would know better than us. You're the sports experts. We just know postcards and political memorabilia. And this undivided postcard back is generally before 1907. We've never had one of these before and may not again. But it could be yours. Remember it's for sewing, postcard and sports collectors alike. This is in VERY nice condition - unused - but please enlarge our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. Could you imagine sending this through the mail today? Confetti. We almost wish it had been sent and postmarked so we could have an actual date, but then it might have had creases, edge roughness and the like. We'd rather have this in its wonderful condition because history itself can help date from when it was made. S & H on this will be $4.50 sent well-protected first class with tracking. And we'll even buy the insurance on your package to protect both of us because we can't replace it. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence, and we'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we won't. Just request a revised invoice from us before paying.
