From a brochure that announced this sale: "An opportunity unequalled in numismatic history is coming your way...the unreserved auction sale of the magnificent Garrett Collection of United States, colonial, territorial, pattern, and related coins. In its quality, scope, and importance the Garrett Collection is unsurpassed by any auction offering of the present century." Lot 698 was "The King of American Coins", the famous 1804 silver dollar; it sold for $400,000. The three volumes are: The Garrett Collection Part II: March 26-27, 1980, paperback, 193 pages, lots 623-1195. The Garrett Collection Part 3: October 1-2, 1980, paperback, 157 pages, lots 1196-1692. The Garrett Collection Part 4: March 25-26, 1981, paperback, 180 pages, lots 1693-2354. The volumes range in condition from fair to very good: Part II - Overall, good: interior is excellent, with no damage, discoloration of writing found; binding is square and solid; spine is worn; a few creases and small chips on or near edges of covers. Part 3 - Overall, very good: interior is excellent, with no damage, discoloration of writing found; binding is square and solid; a bit of wear on spine, a few very tiny bumps on top and bottom edges of covers.Part 4 - Overall, fair: binding is square but is dry and prone to cracking; spine is worn; covers have creases and top corner folds, and consequently top page corners are creased; back cover is badly dented, which affects the inside of the last 1/3 of the book (wrinkles, bumps). Definitely used, but the three volumes are complete and include Prices Realized; two of the three are better than reading copies.
