In April 1967, he entered Osaka Prefectural Yamamoto High School and joined the Judo Club. He entered Kinki University in April 1970 and was introduced to Shorinji Kempo in the same year. In Shorinji-kenpo, he won the Higashi Osaka Tournament twice and the All-Kansai Globe Tournament once. In 1974, he obtained his 4th dan in Shorinji Kempo; in 1980, he established Higashi Osaka Minami-Doin; in 1981, he obtained his 6th dan in Shorinji Kempo; in 1983, he placed 3rd in the 2nd All Japan Tournament of Shodokaikaikan; in 1984, he established Hakuren Kaikan; in the same year, he won the 4th All Japan Tournament of Shidokan; in 1985, he placed 6th in the 4th All Japan Tournament of Shodokan. Known as "Fighting Kancho," he also competed in the Karate Real Champion Tournament.
