Description: This very large and heavy old tramp art box has bold and deep notching. The pyramiding is all rectangular and square, surrounding cloth (velvet?) covered flat panels. (The bottom is likewise covered.) This is typically a characteristic of European boxes but I believe this one is north American. It has robust brass hinges allowing the lid to open and close smoothly. The stuffed aquamarine cloth lining is badly water stained. It sits on wooden ball feat, has a brass handle on top and a brass escutcheon on the front; there is a lock but no key. The lid is slightly warped. It is a typical example of the craft, though quite large at 7x12x8. The weight will drive up the shipping cost a little. U.S. buyers please. [Boston Primitive]
