Barbie 2000 “Millennium Princess” Blue Velvet Gown NRFB

In all my years of buying and selling Barbie, I’ve never seen the price span that I discovered when checking on this doll. So, I decided to use a start bid well below the original purchase price, which was $32.87 at Walmart. Mattel always commemorates significant anniversaries with a special doll, and this Millennium Princess is one of those. And oh by gosh, by golly, she is worthy of that two thousandth anniversary. Chosen for her is a midnight blue, full-skirted velvet gown embellished with a glittery inverted V panel in the skirt, silver frosted accents at the waist and on the bodice, and gossamer sleeve cuffs and neck pouf. She reveals just the right amount of cleavage. And because she is a princess, she wears a crown worthy of royalty, a coordinating necklace, and a faux diamond ring on her right hand. Her left hand is busy holding a Millennium Keepsake mirror ball with a pageant ribbon that reads “Happy New Year 2000.” This lovely lady has never been out of her box, a box worthy of a princess that provides an unobstructed view of her from three sides. I am ridiculously protective of my Barbies, so this doll’s box is in super nice condition with very minor scratches on the cello and a teensy tiny bit of shelf wear. Additionally, I spend a ridiculously long time picking out “the one,” her hair my first priority, then the lilt of her head and her gaze. No one wants to go with me to the Barbie aisle because they know they’ll be there for a while. Now in my golden years, I want to try and find “good homes” for my girls while I’m still lucid enough to put together an Ebay listing and when she sells, make the trip to the post office to send her off. As in the Robert Frost poem, “I have miles to go before I sleep.” Made in China. She has spent her twenty-four years of life protected from all those things she never imagined would harm her—smoke, dampness, direct sunlight…and let’s not forget naughty kitty cats.
