Description: This very rare and original Autolene Peerless Ford British American oil Double Sided Enamel Porcelain Sign dates back to the 1920s. The sign is made of high-quality enamel porcelain and features vibrant colors that have stood the test of time. The graphics have steep layers or stepping I believe the term is called. True vintage with makers mark Bruton Palmers Green London England in lower right corner - instead of steel this had a base of iron which is what the original enamel signs were made from which is quite heavy - enamel signs originated in England before becoming popular in America. This sign pre-dates North American porcelain signs production. This sign was originally a flange sign but someone cut off the bracket and added two holes for hanging. Maintaining excellent gloss and color for its age there appears to be no touch ups. Measuring at 13.5” x 22.5” this original piece of motor oil advertising is double-sided, making it unique in the world of vintage enamel petroliana. The sign is in excellent condition given its age (please see pictures for condition - some paint loss and rust around edges and corners and some small chips as well as scratch marks giving it that killer vintage patina).
