Art Print Paris Signed Original Etching Aquatint River Seine Eastlake Frame

Description: Enjoy a virtual stroll through Paris with this vintage signed original aquatint engraving/etching in an antique frame. It features a view of Pont Neuf, the oldest standing bridge across the River Seine, and the Maison de Madame Roland, home of an historic French revolutionary and writer. Aquatint is a variant of etching in which the artist creates an image on a metal plate from which prints are made. Aquatint produces areas of tone rather than lines and often resembles watercolor drawing. This aquatint is 6 3/4” tall by 8 5/8” wide within the plate marks and is pencil signed Le Bailly on the lower right. Three figures in conversation appear in the foreground. A fourth looks over a low stone wall and past a boat on the river to the scene beyond, which includes a park, the Pont Neuf bridge, and Madame Roland’s mansion. The artist uses soft tones of gold, green, brown and blue to create an impressionistic image. The print has been custom framed in a deep antique Eastlake style wood frame with an intricately designed gold-toned (possibly gold leaf) wood fillet. The frame measures 13 5/8” tall, 15 5/8” wide, and about 2” deep. The image window is 7 3/4” tall by 9 1/8” wide and is glazed with non-reflective glass. The art and frame are in good vintage condition. The frame is solidly constructed using antique square nails. The print’s colors are strong, the plate marks are defined, and the artist’s signature is clear. The print has not been examined outside the frame. As the photos show, there is a narrow (3/16” wide) vertical stain visible on the print’s lower left border, outside the image area and adjacent to the fillet. The frame has nicks/scratches overall and a small hole centered on the upper horizontal. The fillet shows nicks and some loss of gold finish, and there are tears in the backing paper.
