Description: This antique Northwood glass rose bowl/spooner is a stunning piece that will add elegance to any table setting. It was made during the first decade of the 1900's in Wheeling, WV. A fire in the original factory caused the company to lose the molds for this piece along with many others, so it can never be replicated exactly. The bowl has 3 feet and stands 5" tall. It is 4 3/4" in diameter and 3 1/2" deep inside. The bowl is made of clear glass that is textured on the outside giving it an opaque look. The top is crimped with an opalescent edge. There is an alternating, clear daisy and plume pattern around the circumference. The 8 petal daisies have a small, beaded edge. The 3 feet are clear, block style, each one having 2 punched holes in them. One foot has a chip on the corner and the others have some roughness on the edges. Although made during the Edwardian period, the round shape, pattern and crimped edge give it a Victorian feel. The bowl was originally made and used as a spooner (spoon holder) on an elegant dining table, however current bowls in this shape and style have a multitude of uses including a dish for candy, potpourri, a votive candle holder and as a rose bowl to float some beautiful flowers. The bowl is perfect for all occasions, whether it is a formal dinner, a casual gathering or simply displayed. Lovely, unique and a timeless addition to any art glass collection. It is recommended to hand wash only to maintain its quality. One plume has a short scratch on it, but otherwise the bowl is in excellent 100 yr+ condition.
