The United States Mint launched the first redesigned one-cent coin (penny) in 50 years on February 12, 2009 – the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The obverse (heads) of the redesigned Lincoln penny continued to bear likeness of President Lincoln that was introduced in 1909. Inscriptions on the obverse are IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY and 2009 or 2010. The 2009 reverse designs featured on the series of Lincoln penny coins are emblematic of four periods, or themes, in the life of Abraham Lincoln: his birth and early childhood in Kentucky; his formative years in Indiana; his professional life in Illinois; and his presidency in Washington, D.C. The 2010 reverse design featured a design emblematic of President Lincoln's preservation of the United States of America. First 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Program design was the “Birthplace” (LP1) design. The reverse (tails) design depicts a log cabin, emblematic of Lincoln's humble roots in Kentucky. Inscriptions on the reverse are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE CENT, as well as the inscription 1809, the year President Lincoln was born. Second 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Program design was the “Formative Years” (LP2) design. The reverse design depicts a young Lincoln reading while taking a break from working as a rail splitter in Indiana. The inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE CENT. Third 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Program design was the “Professional Life” (LP3) design. The reverse design depicts Abraham Lincoln as a young professional standing in front of the old state capitol building in Springfield, Ill. It includes the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE CENT. Fourth 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Program design was the “Presidency” (LP4) design. The reverse design depicts the half-finished United States Capitol dome, symbolizing a Nation torn apart by civil war and the resolve Lincoln showed as he guided the country through its most grave crisis. It includes the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE CENT. Fifth design is emblematic of President Abraham Lincoln’s “Preservation of the Union” (LP5) as a single and united country. While the obverse (heads side) continued to bear the familiar likeness of President Lincoln that has appeared on the coin since 1909, the reverse (tails) design features a Union Shield with a scroll draped across with the inscription ONE CENT. It includes the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE CENT. TERMS OF SALE 1. We work hard to make sure your package gets to you quickly.
