In 1971 when the Eisenhower Dollar debuted, the mint produced and sold to collectors only 40% silver proof versions of the new coin in what became known as "brown packs". The mint sold these silver proofs for five years (1971 - 1974 & 1976). This set includes the 1974 silver “brown pack” proof as well as the 1974 clad Eisenhower proof from the regular clad proof set.
