Description: Incredibly rare Alford L. McMichael American made 14th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps challenge coin with presentation box (box does show some wear - please see photos for exact detail of coin and box). I purchased a portion of a coin collection from one of the biggest Marine Corps memorabilia collections ever sold. This coin, along with other Sergeants Major of the Marine Corps were included. This version, with the box rarely shows up anywhere for sale.Replicas of this coin do tend to show up on eBay, but one look at the pictures should tell you all you need to know about authenticity as this was definitely made in the USA, most likely by Medalcraft Mint. Alford L. McMichael is a retired United States Marine who served as the 14th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps from 1999 to 2003. He was also the first Staff Non-Commissioned Officer for Allied Command Operations for NATO. McMichael retired from the Marine Corps in 2006 after 36 years of service.
